At the age of 19, I moved out of Momma’s house and got my own place, working hard for 2 years until I gave birth to my handsome son in 2017. Once I stopped working, the magnitude of adulthood, of womanhood, of motherhood hit me and I struggled. Searching for a break, I picked up my pen and began to shape my feelings into poems and songs again. Towards the end of 2018, I discovered Open Mics and fell in love with the idea of sharing my heart with others. Write About Now hosted Open Mics every Wednesday and my son’s Father convinced me to go. Sharing my story that night was exhilarating! I shook the entire time, had absolutely no stage presence, and struggled to hold back rivers begging to pour from my eyes. That night, I felt the peace of finding my way back home. I found myself, a woman, a good thing.
